Calendar

Your sky calendar

Eclipses, meteor showers, planets and the Moon for the next twelve months, worked out for your place: its horizon, its clock and its sky.

How this calendar works

Every date, time and number here is worked out in your browser for your place with Astronomy Engine: Moon phases, eclipses with local contact times, oppositions, the best evenings and mornings for Mercury and Venus, close pairs of the Moon and planets (including the times the Moon covers a star or planet for your place), equinoxes and solstices, and mornings or evenings when four or more bright planets are above your horizon at once (each at least 5° up, with the Sun at least 6° below the horizon).

Meteor rates start from the zenithal hourly rates of the International Meteor Organization working list and are scaled for the height of the radiant above your horizon, the sky brightness you choose, twilight and moonlight. Real rates vary from year to year, and clouds are not included: check the forecast on the Tonight page.

If you have set up My view, events are also checked against the patch of sky your window or balcony shows.
